Inclement Weather Clarification

Hi RMSL,

We hope this email finds you well. We would like to bring your attention to the inclement weather expected tomorrow and provide clarification on the rules regarding meet cancellations and rescheduling. Our aim is to ensure clear communication and understanding for all parent representatives and their respective teams, as well as the teams competing against us tomorrow.

1. Temperature Guidelines:

In the event that the temperature falls below 55 degrees Fahrenheit, the following rules apply:

  • Dual meets may be canceled or rescheduled.
  • Dual meets will not be rescheduled without the consent of both teams.
  • Please note that the temperature guideline refers to the start time of the meet.
  • If the meet has been delayed for more than 30 minutes due to temperature either team has the option to require the meet to be canceled. However, Parent Representatives have the authority to agree upon an extended wait time.
  • If the meet has been delayed for more than 90 minutes due to weather, either team has the option to require the meet to be canceled.

2. Thunder and Lightning Policy:

  • If thunder and/or lightning occur, the pool deck must be cleared, and the following guidelines will be observed:
  • The Referee will determine whether 30 minutes have elapsed since the last occurrence of thunder and/or lightning.
  • If the meet has been delayed for more than 90 minutes due to thunder and/or lightning, either team has the option to require the meet to be canceled.
  • Parent Representatives have the authority to agree upon an extended wait time.
  • Each meet location could be overridden by the pool management company and the guidelines they follow.

3. Meet Cancellation Scenarios:

a. Incomplete Meet (Less than 45 events swum):

  • If the meet is canceled with less than 45 events swum, it will be considered incomplete.
  • An incomplete meet will not count for divisional win/loss standings, but it will be considered for participation in prelims and finals. There will be no win or loss recorded for the meet.

b. Complete Meet (45 events or more swum):

  • If the meet is canceled after 45 events have been swum, it will be considered complete and scored.

4. Additional Clarifications:

a. Temperature for Warm-ups or Start Time:

  • Our stance is that the temperature guideline of 55 degrees Fahrenheit applies to the start time of the meet.

b. Meet Cancellation upon Team's Insistence:

  • If a team insists on the meet being canceled due to the temperature falling below 55 degrees, it will not result in an automatic loss for that team.

c. Inability to Agree on a Reschedule Time (if less than 45 events are swum):

  • If teams cannot reach an agreement on a reschedule time, it will not be considered a win/loss, and a reschedule time cannot be forced.

d. Swimmers Listed on the Program for Canceled Meets:

  • If the meet is canceled, and swimmers who were scheduled to participate are unable to swim, it will still count as a "splash" towards the two-meet prelim/finals requirement.

We hope that this email provides the necessary clarity regarding the inclement weather policy for tomorrow's swim meet. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you for your cooperation, and let's hope for favorable weather conditions.

Best regards,

RMSL Executive Committee
